Crystal Snowflakes

Ingredients

• 1 pipe cleaner

• 1 pair of scissors

• 1 cup

• 1/2 cup of Borax

• 1/2 cup of hot water

• 1 spoon

• 1 Popsicle stick or chopstick

Instructions

1. Cut your pipe cleaner into 3 pieces (leave one piece a little longer) and twist them together to create a snowflake

2. Pour 1/2 cup of hot water into the cup

3. Slowly add in 1/2 cup of Borax 

4. Stir until it is completely dissolved

5. Place the Popsicle stick/chopstick over the cup and attach the snowflake to it with the longer piece, make sure the snowflake is covered by the solution

6. Leave it sitting like this overnight

7.  Take out and enjoy!

What's Happening?

As the water evaporates from the solution, the Sodium (Na) and Chlorine (Cl) atoms in the Borax begin to bond together forming crystals covering the pipe cleaner.
